Disclosure Scotland provides criminal records information to help organisations decide if a person is right for the role or purpose they are applying for. Many organisations outsource their disclosure checks to an umbrella body.

Ordering your Disclosure with Macleod Scott Disclosures
Ordering is a two-stage process:
1. An organisation (e.g. an employer or umbrella body group such as MacLeod Scott Disclosures) needs to start the application.
2. Once we have submitted an application to Disclosure Scotland, they will email the applicant with a link to complete the application. Applicants have 14 days to complete it, thereafter, it expires and they will need to reapply.
Disclosure Scotland will ask the applicant to create a ScotAccount.
Track the application
Disclosure Scotland process most applications within 14 days. It can take longer if they need more information. The applicant can track its progress via their ScotAccount.
Share the disclosure
Once Disclosure Scotland has processed an application, they will email the applicant with a link to view the disclosure via their ScotAccount. The applicant can share the disclosure with the organisation they are applying with (eg an employer). Applicants have 14 days to share it, thereafter it expires and they will need to reapply.

Complete the Online Application Form
You will be issued a link to the online application form. If you have purchased disclosure checks on behalf of one or more applicants, you can distribute the form to your applicants.

Once we have submitted an application to Disclosure Scotland, they will take around 14 days to process it.

Level One Disclosure Check
Disclosure Scotland checks and shares information about your criminal record. The level of disclosure required depends on the type of work you are doing. You can get a Level 1 disclosure for any purpose.

Level Two Disclosure Check
This disclosure is used for specific roles, such as solicitors, accountants and prison workers.
It's also used for Security Industry Authority licences and registration with The Gambling Commission.

Level Two with Barred List Check
This disclosure is used for specific activities, such as adopting a child. It's also used if you share a household with a foster carer or childminder, if you live on school premises, if you share a household with a shared lives carer.

Join the PVG
Scheme
If you are doing regulated work you will need to join the PVG Scheme. Regulated work is when you work with children or protected adults.
